CONDITIONS OF WORK AND PAY
The times of work are 21 in a row at 12 per day followed by 21 days off. This 21/21 rhythm is regulated by international law. Clothing for work will be provided by the employers. Flights and transportation for crew will be taken care of in the normal case, food and accommodation is provided. The food is high standard and includes four warm meals per day.
The monthly net salary for a normal worker in a drilling crew lies at $ 3000. Through various qualifying measures which are offered by many employers this can be improved Up to $ 3500. Qualified personnel such as mechanics, cooks, electricians and others can earn up to $ 4500. Engineers will earn around $ 7000. Usually the wages will be paid In US-Dollar and transferred to your bank account.
IMPORTANT CONDITIONS:
Applicants should have no physical disabilities or a restriction apart from sight, as wearing glasses is no major handicap. All offshore workers have to undergo an health check and take part in a safety training, except personal that has worked on ship or has already worked offshore.
The safety training takes 3-5 days and includes first aid and fire safety. The oil company does the safety courses and health check intern and causes no costs for the applicants. The check up and safety course are not a condition for the applicants.
The working language on offshore platforms is English, basic knowledge will be sufficient as people of many different nations are working offshore. The qualified personnel such as engineers will of course have to have a better knowledge of the English language as they have more complicated tasks.
If you are interested on working in a drilling crew you should not be over 50 but there are other supporting jobs such as cooks, mechanics, engineers or medical staff where it is no problem to be over 50.
Offshore work is traditionally seen as a men‘s job as the work is physically hard and very few women actually work offshore, there is little point for females to apply.

JOBS AVAILABLE:
• Helpers ($35,000) have following tasks: removing rust, painting, scrubbing, transporting goods, equipment and loading supplies on board.
• Maintenance Roustabout ($47,000) main duties include general upkeep and cleansing of deck area of rig. Also painting.
• Roustabout ($54,500) main duties include guiding the crane as loads are moved about the deck, supplying equipment to the rig floor as requested and keeping pipe deck and main deck areas clean and tidy.
• Welder ($62,000) two types, first is the rig welders. They are permanently on one rig and carry out all day to day repairs and building of new metalwork. They are always busy. When there is a big project often a squad of welders is hired to finish the job quickly.
• Scaffolders ($57,500) are not tied to any one rig. They go to different installations depending on where their company has work.
• Radio operator ($62,000) probably the easiest job in the world. Good money if you can stand it. Bring plenty books. However, it is a vital job.
• Medic ($69,000) they are rarely doctors but have a high level of medical training. Some are former nurses. On some smaller rigs they double up as a Rig Safety & Training Co-coordinator.
• Rig Safety & Training Co-coordinator ($80,000) some say, this is a well paid job for the amount of work involved. There is a lot of responsibility. A job for someone who is a good communicator, good organizational and computer skills.
• Mud engineer ($72,500) is in charge of the drilling fluids being used. S/he will likely have a degree in chemistry and will have a good knowledge of drilling procedures.
• Materials man/woman (Store man/woman) ($59,000) Responsible for the maintenance of the stores and stock ordering and receiving. Must be computer literate.
• Painter ($57,500) given his work from the Barge Engineer, the Painter is responsible for the rig painting program. Like the Forth Road Bridge it is a never ending job.
• Steward/essay ($45,000) assists in the kitchen, clean the accommodation and do the laundry.
• Camp boss ($63,500) is in charge of the catering department.
